Obituary for Carol Joan Baker (Ferguson)

Carol Joan Baker- March 19, 1935 to June 10, 2018

Carol was born in Queens, New York. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High school in Cambria Heights. She was on the tennis team as well as an honor student. Carol graduated from Katherine Gibbs secretary school. Her family moved to Jamaica Estates, Queens shortly after. She worked as the administrative assistant to the Vice President of Sales for both Coronet and Colliers Magazines.

She met her husband Edward Baker, formerly of Rockaway Beach, at a singles dance in Roslyn, New York. They were married on September 11, 1960 and resided in Fresh Meadows, New York. They were happily married until his death in January of 2014 having shared 53 years of wedded bliss. Melanie Joy, their only child was born in June 1964.

The family moved to the Monmouth Heights section of Manalapan, New Jersey in February of 1968. Carol was a full-time housewife and mother. She was active as oneg chair at Temple Shaari Emeth, Manalapan, New Jersey and enjoyed being a member of their bowling team. She served as an active member for over 40 years including the communication chair of the Renaissance Club. She enjoyed shopping with her sister and niece, who lived nearby. Carol loved the arts especially tv, movies and the theater.

She utilized her clerical and secretarial skills yet again as senior clerk for the Monmouth County Board of Elections, Freehold, New Jersey for 18 years.

During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with her husband. Carol enjoyed her time, trips and events with the Renaissance Club. She had regular visits to where her daughter and family had relocated.

In 2014 after the death of her husband, she relocated to live with her daughter and family in the south hills of Pittsburgh. Once her health began to fail, she resided at Bridgeville Rehab in Bridgeville, PA. She died peacefully after a long illness at St Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

She leaves behind her daughter Melanie Baker Bleiweis, Canonsburg; son-in-law, Craig; her granddaughter, Alexa and grandson, Dustin all of McMurray, PA; sister, Judith Brandfonbrener; brother in law, Leo of Jackson, NJ; niece Lisa Lilly, (Bob) of Fairfield, CT; nephew, Scott Brandfonbrener, of Mission Viejo, CA. She also leaves her beloved Bentley Boo, her trusty four-year-old English Bulldog and her nurse aid Lina Fleur Peck of Monroeville, PA. Her graveside service will be Friday, June 15, 2018, tentatively at 11 am at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 or American Cancer Society, 2310, Highway 34, Suite 1D, Manasquan, NJ 08736-1400.
