Vincent James John Madill was born on May 4, 1924 in New York City, New York to James Madill and Mary (Mae) Downes Madill. He attended Stuyvesant High School and graduated in 1942. He then went on to attend City College of New York and as part of the V12 Navy College training program transferred to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) located in Troy, NY . He graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. He served in WW II in the Philippines as a member of the US Naval Construction Battalion, better known as the Seabees. He reached the rank of Ensign (commissioned officer) prior to being honorably discharged. He then continued to serve in the Naval reserves until September of 1955.
Vincent went on the work as a Civil Engineer for 49 years for Spencer, White and Prentiss, Raymond and Parson’s Brinkerhoff. He went on to become one of the top estimators in his field until he retired at 72 years of age. He worked on the infrastructure all over the United States, Canada and Venezuela. Some of the most recognizable projects he worked on were the World Trade Center NY, Camp David MD and the Connection of the Reading and Pennsylvania railroads in Center City, PA.
He married Lorine Denver Madill on November 27, 1954. He was a loving husband to her for 44 years, until her death in 1999. He was a devoted father to their three children. They lived in Brooklyn, NY for 16 years before moving to Freehold, NJ in November 1970.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Brooklyn, NY and St. Robert’s Catholic Church in Freehold, NJ. While living in Brooklyn, he was a member of the Catholic Club for many years.
He is survived by his three children James Vincent Madill, Valerie Jeanne Scott, Pamela Anne Madill and son-in-law Kevin Michael Scott. His hobbies included his job, collecting stamps, coins, Cleveland Indians, beer, writing song lyrics/poetry and watching musicals. He was also a bit of a political news junkie.
