Obituary for Richard F Storer

Richard Storer of Willingboro NJ passed peacefully on Thursday August 2, 2018 at the age of 83. He was born and raised in Freehold NJ, and graduated from Freehold High School. He went on to receive a degree from Trenton State College in Mathematics and received his Masters degree in Statistics from Rutgers University. He was a teacher and basketball coach in Wall Township high school. Following that he had a 25 Year career at Rutgers University in a leadership position in the evolving academic computing environment, where he established life long relationships with the dedicated staff working there.

He married the love of his life, Carolyn Van Derveer, also of Freehold 59 years ago, and they moved to Willingboro NJ in 1963 to start and raise their family. While Richard was an educator at heart, he also had a passion for Philosophy, Statistics as they apply to life, and Poetry. He enjoyed analyzing situations and events, extracting life lessons and parallels, and distilling them down to truths and outcomes. He was passionate in discussing poetry, song lyrics and current events with family and friends, often over a good glass of red wine.

He loved to socialize and frequent many dining establishments with his wife Carolyn, and enjoyed meeting people and engaging in conversation. If you were a server or a bartender in southern Philadelphia or in Burlington County NJ, it is likely that you met him at some point over the past 40 years. If you were a woman working while he was there, it is more than likely that you were treated to a serenade, and a host of compliments, as he was gifted with boundless charm and wit.

Richard established many long-term friendships over the course of his lifetime. He made his last new friend at Powerback Rehabilitation in Moorestown NJ last week. Our family would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Tony and the staff there for their collective kindness and support during his stay there.

Richard is survived by his beautiful wife Carolyn of 59 years, his daughter Eileen, son Michael and his wife Allison. He was known as Papa Rich to his 5 grandchildren; Evan, Mitchell, Aidan, Rebecca and Abby.

The family will be hosting a celebration of his life at the home of Michael & Allison on August 25th 2018. It will be an open house, from 12pm-4pm

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to http://www.balletX.org in Philadelphia, one of Carolyn and Richard’s favorite date night destinations. For further information, you may contact Allison at astorer2@mac.com.
